Edited casual chic. That’s what you can expect from this post: an edited selection of high-quality, versatile, and striking pieces. Some pieces (like these pants), can be easily dressed up for the office or a night out, or dressed down with sneakers. Other finds are strictly casual (yet put together), like these sweatpants and matching sweatshirt in white.
Sophisticated Fall Outfits (That Are Actually Really Comfy) From The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
This is all based on my current life—I’m having my third child this fall and need all the comfort I can get. I also want versatility for when I need to dress up and feel like a million bucks. If you want to see what I’d recommend as a stylist to update your fall wardrobe, check this post. You can see I followed some of those suggestions here (at least the ones that fit!).
Takeaways from this year’s Anni Sale:
- This Rails jacket will exceed your expectations. It was an instant ‘yes’ for me.
- Prepare to be pleasantly surprised by these Paul Green sneakers (I got the sand combo). I’m finding all the reasons not to keep them, but I know I will get a ton of wear out of them for the rest of my pregnancy and beyond. So, cost per wear wins.
- This All Saints tote bag is a gem. I got it last year and have gotten so much use out of it.
- However this year I want this one. Perfect for the beach (waterproof), for travel as it fits my laptop and more, and I’m planning to keep it as a diaper bag. I’ll get some kind of useful insert for it.
1. TrousersTo Spice Up All The Outfits
Top (XS) l Bottoms (8US) l Shoes l Bag
I’m not one to do black and white as it is too cool toned for me, however, black and cream? Sign me up. Since I’m pregnant I didn’t even want to bother with jeans. However these Reiss trousers in a size up, were so gentle around my belly, so comfy to wear with sneakers, and the best of all perfect to feel sophisticated.
The Veronica Beard sweater is a splurge but looks so good, and you can wear it with everything from jeans, trousers, skirts and even over dresses.
Pants Fit notes: Wearing a size 8US to fit my baby bump and it fits perfectly. It’s very forgiving and flattering on the mid-section. As you can see I need to get them hemmed, and in order to get the most wear out of them, I mostly wear them with low heels, and sneakers with an insert inside for some extra height so they don’t drag on the floor.
Sweater Fit notes: I’m wearing a XS because the small wasn’t available at my store. It fits fine, but I prefer a bit more slouch.

The styling doesn’t have to be all black and cream. You can experiment with other colors like I did here with the olive jacket, and deep red top. But if you have more of a cool undertone, I’d try blue, lavender, grey and more.
2. A Special (& Forgiving) Skirt/Top Set
Top (XS) l Skirt (XS) l Bag
The texture is everything in this Vince tee, and skirt. I was amazed at how good it hugged my pregnant curves, but I also know it will work after pregnancy.
Fit notes: Depending on the fit you want you will need to size down. I tried the S but felt too loose and not flattering so decided to go a size down (especially the skirt).
Left: Top l Skirt l Shoes l Bag // Right: Jacket l Top l Skirt l Boots
Dress it down with a tote and comfy shoes, or dress it up with a cute pair of heels or boots. A versatile set for sure.
3. Closet Must-Have: Chic Sweat Set (With Shorts)
Top (XS) l Bottoms (S) l Shoes l Bag
These sets are perfect for school drop-off, running errands, lounging at home, etc. I love to have them in fun colors and always get compliments when I wear them. Just style it with cute sneakers and a structured bag, or belt bag like I did here and you’re good to go.

4. A Short Jacket (To Wear With Everything)
This Rails Jacket was more than I expected. It feels so soft and warm, while also giving you a perfect fit. I plan on wearing it over dresses, with sweatpants, trousers, jeans and more.
Left: Dress (S) l Shoes l Bag // Right: Top (XS) l Pants (8US) l Shoes
Fit notes: I’m very petite so I usually size down in jackets like this to get the shorter length. It’s TTS if you prefer a looser fit, or are taller.
5. The Most Sophisticated Sweat Set
Top (S) l Bottoms (S) l Bag l Shoes
Every year a piece from Nike joins my closet and becomes a favorite. I already own these pants in black with the matching sweatshirt, so when I saw it available in this gorgeous ivory shade, and with a Half-zip top I was sold. I will wear it for a long as I can this pregnancy, and then will be perfect postpartum.
Fit notes: Both pieces are true to size. If you’re petite you may need some altering, or being crazy like me and shrinking the pants. I did it with my black pair and the length is on point.
6. Free People Makes The Comfiest Wide Leg Pants
Left: Top l Pants (M) l Shoes l Bag // Right: Top (XS) l Pants (M) l Shoes l Bag
The drape in these pants makes these pants so light and easy to wear. They come in black, and a mauve-like color. The brown is more like my pictures than the retailer making it a more neutral, slightly cool-toned brown.
Fit notes: TTS, but I sized up because of my baby bump.
7. A Colorful Sweater Dress
Left: Dress (XS) l Shoes // Right: Top (XS) l Dress (XS)
This dress also comes in black and a deep pink they call burgundy (it is not). I love it with sneakers for a sporty look, but look how good it looks with a sweatshirt over. Shoes can be sneakers, but also a pair of boots like these.
Fit notes: TTS, with option of sizing down. I mean, I sized down and it goes perfectly over my bump.
8. Beyond Yoga Sweat Set (So Pretty & Comfy)
No styling required because this is exactly how I’d wear it to be comfy at home late in my pregnancy and after with a newborn. So soft, lightweight and delicious, plus the color is stunning and will brighten the most sleep-deprived days. Need to say more?
And that’s it for today! This pregnant mama it’s actually about to start the third trimester and is tired with a lot of hip pain, even if my bump is small this time around.
Happy Anni Sale shopping!
